Jesse Ortiz and the PGA Tour’s most sought after short game instructor, Dave Pelz, have partnered to co-design these breakthrough scoring clubs. Designed to adhere to Pelz’s world class instructional techniques, these wedges make all others obsolete.
With new USGA regulations on groove geometry, wedge durability is more important than ever for maintaining shot trajectory and peak spin performance. The face insert, made from an aerospace steel alloy, Carpenter 440XH, is a remarkably wear-resistant metal alloy (often used in industrial bearing assemblies and critical valve components) – maintains both face friction and groove integrity far longer than conventional wedges. Each face insert is CNC precision milled for maximum USGA face texture and groove dimensions.
New for 2011 is the radical sole grind that reduces drag while increasing delicate shotmaking versatility. Classically shaped and featuring a luxurious black nickel chrome finish; Lofts available in 48, 52, 56, 60, and 64 degrees.
"These enduring wedges will help golfers hit better scoring game shots, control their wedge distances to tighter tolerances, and consistently shoot lower scores," says Pelz.

I have been using the Ortiz/Jones/Pelz wedges for about two years now and have found them very forgiving and virtually indestructable. What troubles me today is to find out that the designer of the clubs (Jesse Ortiz) is not a very good golfer. According to this latest video (9/16/2011) he doesn't play golf very much and isn't really all that good of a golfer (as he said, "just like me!"). Now why would I want to buy golf clubs designed by a guy who has trouble breaking 90? If you can't play golf, how can you design a good (much less great) golf club? I would be interested in hearing your response.
I have played the 48, 52, 56, and 60 Ortiz/Pelz Wedges and purchased them in 2008 - they are very accurate (moreso than typical OEM wedges) with a soft feel, some heft, perimeter weighting with a slightly larger head size than the typical blade. They help eliminate handsiness and will help with better, more consistent shots. Not the longest in terms of distance (heavier shaft) but precision is what most players want in a wedge - for almost all shots, these wedges are superior. Where they fell off with me was in the situation of very delicate shots around the green with the lob wedge, which I use for almost every greenside shot. I think the size and maybe the grind contributed to a lack of maneuverability - a little too much drag on touch shots. The feel was a little heavy off the ball on these shots. I ordered the 2011 wedges in 56 and 60 hoping the new design and grind takes care of this issue as otherwise these are superb wedges. The new grind looks great in pics and video. Enjoy.
I bought a 52 wedge & am very happy with it. It has become my go to club from 100 yards in. Am going to order another wedge & probably a fairway wood to replace my older clubs. This wedge is better than the Cleveland's I tried out at a Demo day this year.
amen to the comments made by Mr. Ortiz. I only recently re-discovered my 52 degree Gap wedge, and it has easily become the most reliable, most important, go-to club in my bag. The club weight, grooves and even a somewhat thicker grip are all features that make this wedge a stand-out performer.
Over the past two years, I purchased the 48, 52, and 56 degree wedges. The face material is extremely durable with no loss in the integrity of the grooves. The bodies of the wedges are softer than my old clubs and are subject to abnormal wear and tear. My old wedges did not hold the greens very well and the ball often rolled beyond expectations. These new wedges hold the green very well. The distance of these wedges is quite a bit less than my old clubs, so my adjustment has taken awhile. Overall, my wedge play is now more predictable, which is crucial to score.
